Best Period
The State of Nayarit in the West of Mexico gets the consistent and regular W/NW swell from the depressions of Aleutian Islands coiling around the bay of Banderas, swept by offshore Northern winds.March and April are sometimes windy.
The Southern Pacific’s depressions and hurricanes bring a S/SW swell, but less consistent than in the Southern part of the States of Colinna, Michoacan or Oaxaca (Puerto Escondido).
The Northern spots of Nayarit are more consistent from 1.20 to 2.50 meters but the region is perfect for a cool surfing and for longboarders.
June to September: lovely – for beginners and longboarders. Many people in the water during the season. Respect the locals.
WINDS & TIDES
Often offshore, the wind usually blows from North. Two tides a day (about 1 meter). Water temperature: 28°C in summer, 22°C in winter – Wear a top or a springsuit from January to April.
Spots
Veneros (meaning the source) :
An excellent long reef break directly in front of Aqua Vivas Villa.
Veneros beach break :
100 yards from Veneros. Powerful right and left, excellent for tube riding
Swimming pool :
500 yards from the house. Right hander which is challenging for tube riding at low tide. The bigger, the better. Wear botties
Weather / Temperature
Air temperature : 30°C (Summer) / 28°C (Winter)
Water temperature : 27°C (Summer) / 26°C (Winter)
Surf Story
If tequila is playing the mariachis in your head in winter, do not wait to feel the barrel along the Pacific coast. You will not regret it…
A country where partying and surfing are unrolling like beer at the bar.
Forget about Georges Bush’s kids, sometimes numerous in the water, enjoy surfing and open your mind to Latin America’s great surf trips.
Mexico, from Baja California to Puerto Escondido, passing by Puerto Vallarta, is the starting point of the huge surfing territory of Terra Latina…
History
200 before BC – The first Mexican civilization, the Olmec one, freed itself near the Gulf coasts. The classical Maya civilization, known as one of the most brilliant of the Pre-Columbian civilizations, soared in the South and in the Centre of the country. Later on, the Toltec followed after the Maya civilization and the Teotihuacán civilization.
1524 – The Spanish control Mexico, “civilizing” and “evangelizing” it.
1821 – The highest Spanish representative in Mexico, Viceroy Agustin de Iturbide, declared the independence.
25 years later, the United States, wishing to please the current Texas in Mexico, resist against Santa Anna by taking over Mexico City.
1917 – The promulgation of a constitution can not stop the civil war. As a result, there is between 1.5 and 2 million dead people and the Mexican War ends up with the assassinations of Carranza and Zapata.
1968 – The Olympic Games take place in Mexico City.
2003 – The North American Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, Canada and the United States is implemented.
Geography
Crossed by the Tropic of Cancer, Mexico is stretching more than 2 millions km². Roughly triangular in shape, the country has more than 3 000 km common border with the United States in the North and is bordered by Guatemala and Belize in the South.
However, Mexico is first and foremost bordered by the Caribbean Sea in the East (Gulf of Mexico) and the Pacific Ocean in the West.
In the Northern part, coastal plains divide two mountainous ranges north south oriented, the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Sierra Madre Occidental. They surround the Mexican altiplano (high plain) between 1 000 and 2 000m high.
In the Southern part of Mexico City, the Sierra Madre del Sur (Cordillera Neovolcánica) hugs the Southwest coast of the country and gather its active volcanoes and its highest points: El Pico de Orizaba (5 611m) and Popocatépetl (5 452m).
Mexico’s most stretchy region, in the South is composed of low lands and high plateaus. The Sierra Madre of Chiapas closes it up along the Pacific coast. The Yucatan peninsula comes up in the Gulf of Mexico on the Atlantic side.
